30 Contenders. 10 Places. One Champion.

30 Contenders. 10 Places. One Champion.

South African schools basketball has never had one recognised national ranking that brings leading public and independent schools into the same conversation. Until now, comparisons have largely lived within provinces, tours and individual tournaments.

The Top 10 Tournament is changing that conversation.

Following an open nomination process and direct invitations to ranked programmes across the country, 30 schools now stand on one shortlist. They represent four provinces, proud basketball traditions and one shared ambition: to earn a place among the Final Top 10 at Mandeville Sports Club in Johannesburg from 2–4 December 2026.

Thirty contenders. Only ten places.

This shortlist is not the final field. It is the last stage before the selection committee names the ten teams that will compete for the 2026 U19 boys championship.

Every shortlisted school now has a place on the tournament platform. Supporters can explore team profiles, follow the story and see the depth of basketball talent coming from across South Africa.

A national proving ground

The opportunity is bigger than three days of basketball. The tournament creates a national stage where public and independent schools can meet, compete and settle the debate on the court.

Every match will be played under FIBA rules with certified referees and table officials. Live player statistics will build verified digital profiles across the tournament, giving players, coaches, supporters and selectors a richer record of every performance.

For the schools selected, December will be a chance to represent far more than a badge. It will be an opportunity to carry a province, test a programme against the country''s best and help define a new national standard for schools basketball.

The Final Top 10

The selection committee will reveal the Final Top 10 at the end of October 2026. Those ten schools will be drawn into two pools of five before the road to the championship begins.

Thirty have made the shortlist. Ten will make the trip to Mandeville. One will leave as champion.
